X Fest 2012 at Santa Pod Raceway Report Saturday 5th to Monday 7th May 2012
The first ever extreme sports event held at Santa Pod Raceway, X Fest took place on the 5th-7th May 2012.
Riders travelled from all over the world to take part and completed some awesome competitions despite the weathers best efforts to literally put a dampener on things.
Saturday proved difficult with rain at various intervals but all courses were open whenever possible to the public. The undercover street course and mini ramp were popular for all riders. The Podzilla Monster Truck put on 2 shows to amaze the crowds and the Stunt Bikers were running all day representing the engine driving machines. The Amateur BMX qualifier started early on and then the inline competition was one of the first to hit the Park course and all riders were challenged by the technically difficult layout. Meanwhile Scoot Mag were running their qualifiers on the Scooter course for Sundays finals. Pro Skateboard demos took place on the half pipe featuring to give a display of yet another extreme sport. After another downpour late on Saturday the Park course opened for the first BMX Pro demo and all riders put on a great show. Martin Hill in his FireForce 3 Jet Funny Car also made a pass and wowed the crowds at over 250mph. The Sidewinder club night entertained all evening in the Big Top Marquee with a mix of music and some of the hottest MC’s. DJ Middleman and MC Nessie looked after things in the Fuelers bar until the early hours.
Sunday arrived with bleary eyes and some sore heads but the outlook was dry for the day. All riders made the most of this opportunity, public sessions were full with riders giving it a go like the pro’s. The inliners took to the course once again and completed the first leg of their Laced competition. The BMX Street competition was next and, due to Mondays poor weather forecast, featured all competitions running on a combined qualifier and final schedule. The Street competition was fiercely fought and will be remembered for some top class world first tricks. Next up was more BMX, this time over to the Park competition where all riders really pulled out all the stops to take home a share of the prize pot. Following the Park competition was the eagerly awaited Lords of Dirt Competition, unfortunately due to the sticky surface it looked like we were only going to be able to run a best trick competition over the first jump. As the evening came in this made for a jaw dropping spectacle and none of the riders disappointed. The first ever X fest crown went to Desmond Tessemaker so a huge congrats to him. The evening entertainment went off again in the Fuelers bar and Big Top and was the perfect way to celebrate a great days riding.
Unfortunately as expected, on Monday the rain came in and many of the events were rained off. Luckily the Razor Global Domination Tour was moved to the undercover street course which entertained the scooter enthusiasts throughout the day.
Due to the poor weather and lack of events taking place on Monday we have made the decision to issue all Monday Day ticket holders with a day ticket (of their choice) to the 2013 event which is sure to be bigger and better. Tickets purchased on the gate must be returned to us with your 2013 day choice and advance ticket holders need to contact the office. Thanks again for your support.
